My concept of feminism in a nutshell.

"Real feminism is defined by women who can, and do, take care of themselves. Real feminists don’t look for a Prince Charming to rescue them, and they don’t look for a handout. That sort of entitlement mentality hurls women back several decades, when it was expected that someone else (a man) would pay their way. Liberal feminism has morphed into a laughable movement filled with harpies who hold up signs saying, “Hoes before embryos” while defining themselves entirely by their “lady parts.” We, on the other hand, define ourselves by our character, our passions, our loves, our strengths, our abilities and our successes." Source: https://www.facebook.com/constitutionalist.conservative?hc_location=stream

I'll add that feminism is about choices, not predestination. It's not your life's work as a woman to take care of anyone unless you choose to do so (unless you've already made the choice to bring a child into the world, and in that case, step up girlfriend). If you do make that choice, you are embarking on something that requires strength, perseverance, and humility. If you do not, you are embarking on something different which will require another set of skills and strengths. Still your life's work; it is not anyone's to judge but your own.

The world is your oyster. Show em' what you got!

Two months and two days to spare!

Hey y'all!

I totally posted in less than two years! Two months and two days from now is, believe it or not, my first wedding anniversary. That's right. So much has happened since I last posted. Got married, bought a house, finished my Masters degree and I'm not even on a hallucinogen - THIS ALL ACTUALLY HAPPENED!

In the process of getting married, I got a daughter! My stepdaughter Riley. Time+Love = A Blessed Life. She's going into second grade in two weeks.

Now, if I can secure full time employment, life as I know will be totally settled. Wanna see a picture of my wedding? I knew you did! Here are picture(s).

Aside from it being just a perfect wedding... it was PUBLISHED on a wedding blog! All thanks to my beyond amazing photographers, Wanda Cavazos and Mell Bell from Richard Bell Photography. Check it out! http://alowcountrywed.com/island-house-wedding-megan-cisco/

And here is my graduation picture - a good day as well!

So, in the last (almost) two years, life has just kept getting better. So very much to be thankful for, and to keep looking forward to!

I think I'll start posting again. I need an outlet to put all my musings on body image. Perhaps I will start a new blog for that intent. I'll let you know.

Like a loyal dog, so is blogger.com.

My friend S started a blog, and it made me want a blog. Then I said, Hey! I already have a blog. So I dusted it off and as it turns out, it still works. Hopefully I'll update again it before 2 years.

OHAI.

Guess what? I'm getting married. Yep. On 10/11/12, which is a year from today. It will indeed be a grand event. My fiance is named Cisco (he is indeed not a rapper) and we're quite happily in love. We decided to ruin it by getting married. Ha ha, I joke. I do lurve him and I'm very much looking forward to married life. He's my lobster.

I also got a cat at the end of last year that brings me much entertainment. Her name is Mrs. Buttersworth, Butters for short, and she is a calico that wants to rule the world. I'm going to post a picture of her.

She's pretty and cute. She's also a complete pain in the arse. Kind of like my dog. It's like having a set of salt and pepper shakers! I found out this week that Butters loves her some cat nip. The complication here is the my dog also loves the catnip. Is that okay? I give it to her regardless.

This concludes tonight's session of free association! Do have a nice evening.

Heavens to Murgatroid.

Just when I thought the demands couldn't get larger, I had to look at what Yahoo had to say about my horoscope.

"Even if it puts a stress on your free time, you must accept any and all invitations."

What? I don't have enough? Now I need to add sickening co-dependence to my repertoire? I think not. Bite me, Yahoo!

Yay!

In a stunningly good move by the Academy, a posthumous Best Supporting Actor Award was presented to Heath Ledger. Well done, Heath. RIP.

But you know what precedes Spring break? Midterms. DOH.

I just wanna sleep. Please?

Land of the Free, Home of the Dense.

What kind of nonsense leads a person to believe that forcing her body to produce 14 children in two pregnancies is a sound decision? She already had SIX (SIX! that's her replaced SIX FOLD - imagine if everyone on this planet replaced him or herself SIX FOLD) and then she needed 8 MORE? Unlike paper towels at Sam's, children don't get cheaper in bulk!

For the love of all things holy, I can only hope this lady never has the nerve to ask the government for assistance taking care of those children.

Some Gestalt for your Friday.

This will probably make no sense to a lot of people. But those who get it will find it highly amusing.

Night has lost his mojo

So this weekend I rented "The Happening." It's anything but. Let me save you the rental cost or even watching it on cable for (relatively) free.

Plot summary: Everyone but Mark Wahlberg and his entourage kill themselves in violent, heinous ways.

The end.

Let's petition Hollywood to help Night find his mojo.

Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary

Day 983 of my captivity...

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a 'good litt le hunter' I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now ...

Tacky and Fabulous.

Some people know what the Christmas Spirit is all about!

Schizophrenia Lite. Only half the calories of real schizophrenia.

My brain is a happy, broken place that can only come about via months of a constant barrage of stuff! The other girls and I are kinda like this right about now (read: brief psychotic episode):

Did you know that there is an actual DSM disorder called "mal de ojo." Yep - the "evil eye" as it were. Here's an excerpt: "Children are especially at risk. Symptoms include fitful sleep, crying without apparent cause, diarrhea and vomiting." I'm sure this is nowhere near as amusing to you as it is to me, but I wanted to share, nevertheless.

I wonder how many points I'd get for spelling nevertheless on Pathwords...

Don't be too concerned. It will all be over on Thursday. Well, for this semester. What's on the agenda? Glad you asked. I'm hoping to re-learn this whole sleep thing. I plan on doing a lot of nothing. A massage will definitely figure in somewhere. Spend time with the fam and the niece I've neglected frequently over the last 4 months. And those other people... what are they... oh yeah. Friends! Yay, friend time! Wow, that's a loaded 3.5 weeks. Better get going on it.

Hey, did you know it's apparently Christmas time too? Who scheduled all this anyway? Can't wait for some Grandma Wike cooking. Oh, speaking of Grandma, she wished me well: she's concerned that I won't graduate "before we get bombed again." That Grandma. She's a fiesty one!

Here's a recap of my finer achievements this semester:
  • When discussing my IQ examinees to the class, I referred to them as "testees." Nice. My professor loved that one.
  • I'm currently vying for Best Actress in a Simulated Therapy Session as I managed to squeak out real tears playing a woman who had recently lost her husband to suicide (no Visine for this chick). I got a round of applause for my talents. Also on the ballot is Stephanie who rocked a girl with dissociative disorder.
  • I found a new favorite aerobic exercise: Cardio Strip. Relax. It's like Zumba, but closer (offered on campus) and it's named as such to appeal to, well, the whorish college girls. But it's a great workout and they play great music.
  • I got Direct TV. Holla.
  • I saw Twilight 3 times and fell irrevocably in love with the undead. If you aren't in love with the undead, you have not seen Twilight.
That about wraps it up, kids. 16 weeks, gone in a flash and yet the longest 16 weeks of my life, all at that same time. Hey, if I thought those went fast, wait until the 3 week break....

Attack of the Killer Potato

Now, I have been known to eat most any kind of potato in most anything. But I don't believe I'd touch this particular potato with a 39.5 foot pole. It just looks like it should have teeth or something.

Dang that's a big potato
